We photographed Anya Kleinman in Maryland as part of a portrait series honoring recipients of the Heller Diller Teen Tikkun Olam Awards, which recognize young leaders creating meaningful change in their communities.

Anya is the co-founder and CEO of Dancers Beyond Labels, a nonprofit working to address the eating disorder and mental health crisis within the dance community. After experiencing pressure to maintain an ideal dancer’s body herself, Anya helped launch the organization to promote healthier conversations around body image and to support the mental health of young dancers. Through education initiatives and digital campaigns, Dancers Beyond Labels has reached tens of thousands of dancers and instructors while building a global network of volunteers and studio partners committed to creating a healthier culture in dance.
